Wer mich liebet, 
Whoever loves me
der wird mein Wort halten, 
will keep my words,
und mein Vater wird ihn lieben, 
and my Father will love him,
und wir werden zu ihm kommen 
and we will come unto him
und Wohnung bei ihm machen.  
and make a dwelling place within him.

2. RECITATIVO SOPRANO
O, was sind das vor Ehren,
O, what honors are these
worzu uns Jesus setzt?
which Jesus places upon us?
Der uns so würdig schätzt,
He who esteems us so worthy
daß er verheißt,
that he promises
samt Vater und dem heilgen Geist
along with the Father and by the Holy Spirit
in unsern Herzen einzukehren.
to move into our hearts.
O, was sind das vor Ehren?

Der Mensch ist Staub,
The human is dust,
der Eitelkeit ihr Raub,
you rape of vanity,
der Müh und Arbeit Trauerspiel
a tragedy of troubles and toils
und alles Elends Zweck und Ziel.
and the aim and goal of every wretchedness.
Wie nun? Der Allerhöchste spricht,
How then? The Most High speaks,
er will in unsern Seelen
die Wohnung sich erwählen.
he will elect a dwelling place
in our souls.
Ach, was tut Gottes Liebe nicht?
Oh, what does not the love of God do?
Ach, daß doch, wie er wollte,
Oh, that indeed, as he willed,
ihn auch ein jeder lieben sollte.
each one should also love him.

Komm, Heiliger Geist, Herre Gott,
Come, Holy Spirit, Lord God,
erfüll mit deiner Gnaden Gut
infuse, with the goodness of your grace,
deiner Gläubigen Herz, Mut und Sinn.
your faithful hearts, spirits and minds.
Dein brünstig Lieb entzünd in ihn’n.
Ignite your fervent love in them.
O Herr, durch deines Lichtes Glanz
O Lord, through your lamp’s blazing
zu dem Glauben versammlet hast
unto the faithful [you] have gathered
das Volk aus aller Welt Zungen;
tongues of the every people of the world;
das sei dir, Herr, zu Lob gesungen.
this be sung to you, Lord, in praise.

Die Welt mit allen Königreichen,
The world with all king’s realms,
die Welt mit aller Herrlichkeit
the world with all its grandeur
kann dieser Herrlichkeit nicht gleichen,
cannot match this grandeur
womit uns unser Gott erfreut:
with which our God delights us:
daß er in unsern Herzen thronet
that he be enthroned in our hearts
und wie in einem Himmel wohnet.
and resides as if in Heaven.
Ach Gott, wie selig sind wir doch,
Oh God, how blessed indeed are we,
wie selig werden wir erst noch,
how blessed will we yet become,
wenn wir nach dieser Zeit der Erden
when we, after this time on earth,
bei dir im Himmel wohnen werden.
will dwell with you in Heaven.
