1. RECITATIVO BASSO
Sie werden euch in den Bann tun,
They shall banish you,
es kömmt aber die Zeit, daß,
     the time however is coming when
wer euch tötet, wird meinen,
whoever kills you will think
er tue Gott einen Dienst daran.
     they are doing service to God.

2. ARIA TENORE
Ich fürchte nicht des Todes Schrecken,
     I do not fear the horrors of death;
ich scheue ganz kein Ungemach,
I dread no adversity at all,
denn Jesus’ Schutzarm wird mich decken,
     for Jesus’ protective arm will cover me,
ich folge gern und willig nach.
I follow along gladly and willingly.

Wollt ihr nicht meines Lebens schonen
If you (my enemies) want not to spare my life
und glaubt, Gott einen Dienst zu tun,
and believe you are doing God a service,
er soll euch selber noch belohnen,
     he himself should yet reward you,
wohlan, es mag dabei beruhn.
that is, if it is ordained by him.

3. RECITATIVO ALTO
Ich bin bereit, mein Blut und armes Leben
vor dich, mein Heiland, hinzugeben,
I am ready to hand over my blood
and meager life to you, my savior,
mein ganzer Mensch soll dir gewidmet sein;
     my whole person shall be dedicated to you;
ich tröste mich, dein Geist wird bei mir stehen,
I comfort myself that your spirit will stand by me,
gesetzt, es sollte mir vielleicht zuviel geschehen.

Höchster Tröster, Heilger Geist,
     Highest comforter, Holy Spirit,
der du mir die Wege weist,
you who points to me the path
darauf ich wandeln soll,
     upon which I should wander,
hilf meine Schwachheit mit vertreten,
help my weakness as advocate,
denn von mir selbst kann ich nicht beten,
     for on my own I cannot pray,
ich weiß, du sorgest vor mein Wohl!
I know you care for my wellbeing!

Du bist ein Geist, der lehret,
You are a spirit who instructs
wie man recht beten soll;
how one should rightly pray;
dein Beten wird erhöret,
your prayer will be answered,
dein Singen klinget wohl.
     your singing resonates well.
Es steigt zum Himmel an,
It rises up to Heaven,
es steigt und läßt nicht abe,
it rises and ebbs not,
bis der geholfen habe,
until he has helped,
der allein helfen kann.
     who alone can help.
